Length of Course
Both our day course and evening course are delivered by a combination of practical classroom tuition, theory classroom tuition, practical experience in a salon situation and open learning (subjects studied at home).
The average student would take 11 months to complete this course full time, 3-4 days a week) or 22 months part time (2 evenings a week plus 1 day per week practical work experience, plus home study).
Due to our flexible learning program, the course can be completed more quickly, or spread over a longer period depending on your other commitments. Should extra time be required this must be applied for in writing to the Principal. We can design a program to perfectly suit your personal or work commitments.
Day Classes
Day classes are held three days a week from 9am - 5pm (including practical work experience). Two days are set days either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, and the third day, which involves practical work experience in our Student Day Spa.
In addition to class room attendance and work experience approximately a further 8 hours a week is required for product schools, excursions, theory learning and assessment tasks. Wednesdays are occasionally required for elective lessons. The dates of many of these external classes are out of our control, and may be held on a weekend, but dates are advised well in advance. This fourth day is very flexible, and should you not have the time initially, it can be added to the end of the course.
The first 6 months involve face to face teaching in the class room and practical work experience and home studies. At the end of 6 months, 3 full days are spent in our own student Day Spa or an Emma's Secret Skin Care Centre for a further 4 months to ensure what you have learnt in the classroom is applied to industry standards in the real work environment.
NOTE: Work experience is not paid and is part of your training requirements.
Evening Classes
Evening classes are held 2 evenings a week from 6pm - 9pm plus a further day per week of your choice for practical work experience. The two evenings are compulsory, and an additional half day, which involves practical work experience in our student day spa.
In addition to class room attendance and work experience, approximately a further 4 hours a week is required for product schools, visits to plastic surgeons, excursions, theory learning and assessment tasks. The dates of many of these external classes are out of our control, and may be held on a weekend, but dates are advised well in advance. This fourth day is very flexible, and should you not have the time initially, it can be added to the end of the course.
Evening students must ensure they make time available for these external courses that may not be during evening hours.
The first 12 months involve face to face teaching in the class room and practical work experience and open learning (home studies). At the end of 12 months one day a week, or more if possible is spent in our own student Day Spa or an Emma's Secret Skin Care Centre, for a further 6 months to ensure what you have learnt in the classroom, is applied to industry standards in the real work environment.
Distance Learning
For students who live in the country or a long way from the Academy, or have family or other time constraints it is possible to study individual unit of competency by correspondence. The theory component is the same as the full time students receive, and you work at your own pace completing each unit of competency.
Students studying by correspondence complete their theory tasks at home, and attend our practical training clinic at any time that suits them for practical tuition.
It is also possible to study Certificate IV by a combination distance learning and practical tuition. Please telephone the Principal for individual arrangements..
