Part of your training in a real salon!
One of the problems often facing newly qualified Beauty Therapists is that Employers ask for “experience”.
For this reason the Australian Academy of Beauty and Spa Therapy runs Student Clinics, where all treatments are performed by students and the students run the salon under the guidance of their teacher and workplace trainer and assessor. North Strathfield students have their own clinic.
Students gain valuable experience not only in treatments, but all aspects of salon operations. Students take turns to be “manager” for the day and assistant manager, learning competency such as reception duties, balancing money, planning therapists work for the day, stock ordering, stock control, marketing, merchandise display etc.
The clinic is run by a qualified Trainer and Assessor who records students progress on a weekly basis. Written and oral reports are given to class teachers on any areas students need help or improvement.
Students attend this clinic one day a week for the first 6 months, then 3 days a week for the last 3 –5 months depending on electives and specialist units chosen. Students can choose the days most suitable to them. Students must treat work experience as they would a job, and successful assessment of this module includes giving correct notice if unable to attend, working correct hours, and being responsible just as is required in the real work environment.
At the completion of this work experience program, students are valuable employees, having practised their competency learnt in class, regularly in a real working salon.
Please also note, work experience is not paid, but is a valuable part of your training providing you with real work experience in a salon environment. Our clinic is not set up for profit, but purely to provide experience that is difficult to get otherwise.

Students perform all treatments including waxing, day spa treatments, spray tans facials waxing etc.
