Online and Distance Learning

Many of our students have always dreamed of a career in beauty therapy, even starting their own business but due to work and family commitments cannot attend face to face.

It is possible to study SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy by distance learning. Classes are held at Bella Vista and Rockdale Academies.

When enrolling choose Bella Vista or Rockdale as your Academy choice.

The Diploma is VET Student Loans enabled for eligible students for part of the cost. Our distance learning program is particularly suitable for those students living in country areas or need the flexibility of studying remotely rather than attending college.

The course is studied over 46 weeks a combination of:

  • Weekly webinar for theory content with your trainer
  • 5 day practical workshops 4 times a year roughly every 3 months at either Bella Vista or Rockdale
  • 400 hours practicing on clients.
  • This can be done by either of following methods
    • a) Best Option- 400 hours at our closest student clinic ( Bella Vista, North Strathfield or Rockdale)
    • b) 80 hrs at home on family and friends ( details logged) and 320hrs in student clinic
    • c)  For  students who live too far away to attend  our clinic, structured workplace learning ( work experience may be done in a local salon close to  where you live )
    • d) Please Note all practical assessments must be done at the Student laser and Dermal clinic on paying clients with qualified assessors and for those unable to attend our student clinic for work experience we will organise these assessment days to suit your  individual requirements.
  • Self-paced study and research.
  • Theory and Practical Assessment

Our Moodle student learning portal provides students with an interactive approach to blended learning. Students can access the theory components and learning materials online which include videos and PowerPoints.

You access your assignments online, and your Trainer will mark them electronically. You can view your records and grades easily at any time.

You will receive personal attention and one on one support from your Trainer who will guide you through all aspects of the course and be in constant contact.

You attend the 5 day day workshops that are held at the end of February, May, August and November each year which is where you learn the practical aspects of the course.

At the completion of each workshop you will practice what you have learnt in a previously approved salon where you will gain the practical skills you need to become a successful and highly regarded Beauty Therapist.

Please note most practical units require you to be assessed 4-6 times by our qualified assessors. At least 2 of these will be done in person but if you are unable to come for all assessments due to distance, you must video the other treatments on average 4 times and forward to your assessor for marking and comment. On enrolment we will provide you with a variety of options for practical assessments including coming into Academy on  a regular basis and videoing submission.

You will also be given kits for most practical units (see prospectus for list).

Please read our Prospectus and Distance Student Handbook for further details.

You will have your final practical assessments with our college assessors and will graduate with the same qualifications as our full time students. Average timeframe to complete the course by distance learning is 46-72 weeks according to individual needs.

The distance learning course commences at the beginning of each month.

You can start this course anytime, by starting the units with the practical workshop approx 3 months after starting theory.

The Academy has a full range of education support and learning services and resources to ensure all students are able to meet student needs. Items such as Prospectus, Student Handbook, assessments, unit resources are all stored on Moodle for easy access at all times. At enrolment and during the course student needs are evaluated and advice or help is provided when necessary.
